Jeff Koons’s Iconic Rabbit Now Comes in Jewelry Form – Vogue.com
In his 40-odd-year career as an artist, Jeff Koons has experimented in many mediums, but one arena he’s left untouched is jewelry—until now. In collaboration with his wife, Justine’s, new jewelry line, Gus + Al, Koons has created a cuff bracelet and necklace in sterling silver featuring the silhouette of his famous 1986 Rabbit sculpture. The items are the first jewelry pieces Koons has officially endorsed and come complete, like any good work of art, with Koons’s signature on the back. For the price of $700, they might well be the most accessible Koons piece on the market. (Don’t forget, his Balloon Dog (Orange) sold for a record-setting $58.4 million in 2013, making it the most expensive work ever sold by a living artist.)
For Justine Koons and her partner in Gus + Al, Alison Brokaw, the decision to transform Rabbit into a piece of jewelry felt right in line with their playful ethos. “We thought that the Rabbit would be a kind of talisman for us and for the wearer, bringing luck to Gus + Al as we build our brand and have fun with art and fashion together,” the pair explained over email, noting that not only is the rabbit a traditional symbol of prosperity, but it’s also the work that shot Koons to international fame. The duo’s collection is filled with other Pop-minded pieces, like emoji rings and hashtag necklaces. We’d venture the #ART bracelet will be a popular get.
