Public help needed to solve mystery of missing boater, sunken luxury craft in … –

FORESTVILLE, MI — The mystery of the missing man with the sinking luxury boat continues, as police release more details about shedding light on his disappearance.

A passing freighter spotted the bow of Patrick M. Presutti’s 31-foot craft bobbing while sinking on Lake Huron on Sept. 8.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Department released a photograph on a missing poster of Presutti, 60.

The Macomb man’s wife reported him missing on Sept. 1 after the two of them had an argument, said Capt. Elizabeth Darga of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department.

Presutti remains missing. A freighter spotted a 6-foot section of his cabin cruiser’s bow protruding from the water about seven miles off the shore of Michigan’s Thumb.

A black-and-white Jolly Roger flag was fixed to the bow. A photograph of a Jolly Roger flag, like the one on the front of the sinking Sea Ray, is his Facebook cover image.

A strainer was left open inside the boat that had been secured with “wingnuts” that were undone, allowing water to come inside the boat, Darga said.

“It’s almost like a strainer on a pool, except a little smaller,” she said. “It catches all the seaweed and debris. It was being held down by wingnuts, and those were off.”

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department assisted police in Macomb County, working with a tow boat at Port Sanilac Harbor to bring the 31-foot Sting Ray to shore.

Detectives believe someone intentionally tried to sink the boat, the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department said after initial investigation.

“We’re going to put out a missing poster,” Darga said Thursday, with hopes of making the man’s face public so people can be on the lookout for him.

Presutti is described as a white 60-year-old man, standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 230 pounds, with grey hair and brown eyes, the sheriff’s department reports.

Police said on Wednesday that his accounts have not been accessed since he went missing.

He left his home on Saturday, Aug. 29, after an argument with his wife, Darga said.

He was last seen Sunday, Aug. 30, at the marina, where he reportedly boarded the boat by himself and left the marina on the water, Darga said.

Presutti left his vehicle parked in the lot across the street from the marina, Darga said, and investigators recovered it. There was nothing inside to give police knowledge of why he was missing.

“We’re still investigating, still talking with family and friends, just as to what they know or what happened,” she said.

“We’re seeing no signs of foul play,” she told The Saginaw News on Sept. 10, clarifying that to mean there are no signs of evidence that someone hurt the man.

“We’re not sure if he sunk it himself.”

Presutti is pictured on his Facebook page wearing a Sea Ray hat behind the wheel of a boat. The profile states he is from New Baltimore and lives in Macomb. He studied at Oakland University and lists “salesmanager” as his occupation at multiple car sales locations.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau at 586-307-9358.
