Forget the beach — try the Labor Day Art and Craft Show – Delmarva Daily Times

For those families and individuals heading into Ocean City for Labor Day weekend, there are plenty of things to do.

Don’t worry: The beach, the shops and the sweet smell of fried Oreos will always be there. But the Labor Day Art and Craft Show will be around for a short three days, and it’s a time for attendees to take advantage of checking out some great creations.

“This event provides an alternative destination to the beach and Boardwalk for Ocean City’s holiday weekend visitors,” show promoter Ami Hastings said. “All work is expected to be individually hand-crafted or hand-created by the artist.”

Hastings said the artwork has no particular theme, and all pieces are original works of art. From jewelry and wearable art to sea glass creations, there is certainly something to captivate anyone and everyone who walks through the aisles of Dockside Hall in the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, overlooking the bay with an easy access to a Bayfront boardwalk.

“Our show is a good getaway for visitors to find unique gifts and personal items that they won’t find in the Boardwalk shops,” Hastings said. “It’s always a nice crowd and folks are always pleased with the unique selection of arts and crafts.”

This is the 18th year for the show and it has seen myriad arts and crafts including textiles, woodworking, ceramics, original paintings and prints and stained glass.

With a longstanding history surrounding the event, Hastings said it promotes creativity and originality and it’s a place where anyone can find something unique and personal.

“Visitors will find unique, handmade items to purchase for themselves or to take back as gifts that they won’t find anywhere else in town,” she said.
