The center houses two coal forges, two propane forges, safety equipment and hand and power tools used to sharpen and finish blades, tools, and functional and decorative steel objects.
Brookfield Craft Center Executive Director Howard Lasser said the grant will allow the forge to double in size. He said the Craft Center will add six coal forges as well as other equipment that will allow for larger projects, including sword making, and ornamental metal work.
“We’re excited to be able to invest even more in the Good Forge offerings,” Lasser said. “The Windgate Foundation contribution will put us into the first rank of blacksmithing facilities in the tri-state area, and the largest in Connecticut in a dedicated craft school.”
The Brookfield Craft Center at 286 Whisconier Rd. offers a variety of art classes and workshops. For more information visit www.brookfieldcraft.org.
